Eindhoven

The tech and design capital of the south, a fast-growing hub with more space, lower rent and a surprisingly large international crowd.

4 min read Updated August 2026

If your work is in tech, hardware or design, Eindhoven is a serious option, home to a dense cluster of tech employers and a young, international workforce that has grown fast in the last decade.

Why people love it

  • More affordable than the Randstad, €1,100–€1,500 for a one-bed goes much further here.
  • A big, welcoming international community centred on the tech scene.
  • Modern, spacious, easy to cycle, and less of the tourist crush.

Trade-offs

  • Smaller and quieter than Amsterdam, fewer big-city trappings.
  • A bit further from the classic Amsterdam/airport axis (though still well connected by train).
  • The Indian community is growing but smaller than in the Amsterdam region.

Who it suits

Tech professionals and families who want more home for their money and a friendly, less frantic pace.

Questions & answers

Is Eindhoven good for semiconductor and embedded systems careers?
It is arguably the best place in Europe for it. The Brainport region is built around ASML (Veldhoven), NXP, Philips heritage companies, Thermo Fisher and a deep bench of suppliers, all hiring hardware, embedded, mechatronics and software engineers in English. No Dutch is needed for the work itself, relocation packages are common, and the companies are IND recognised sponsors, so the highly skilled migrant route applies. Apply directly on company career pages or LinkedIn from India; if you are earlier in your career, a master's at TU Eindhoven followed by the orientation-year visa is a well-worn path into these companies.
Will Eindhoven feel too small coming from a big Indian city?
It's smaller and quieter than a Hyderabad or Bangalore, that's fair. But the tech scene keeps it young and international, your money goes much further on rent, and weekend trips easily fill the gap. If you want big-city buzz every single day, the Randstad suits you better; if you want space, savings and a strong tech community, Eindhoven is a genuine sweet spot.
